PINK AND STRIPY ....

I made this stripy page some time ago using my water-soluble crayons but then didn't do anything with it for a while, until I encountered this quote in a newspaper and just had to journal about it.
I find that extra-fine Sharpie pens (among others) write really well over the crayon layers, and the bits at the top were just crying out for a bit of doodling, while I thought about what else I wanted to say. I love doing pages like this with the layers of colour - it practically invites you write on them and to build up layers of meaning as you do so.
The stripes and colours here really feel like me, and so does the doodling. I always wish I could do pages which are loose and free, all spattered with paint and layers of paper etc., but that doesn't seem to come naturally to me at all. You might guess that I'm kind of tidy and organised, a bit of a neat freak if I'm honest. Sorry. However, since it's my journal and I get to pick what goes in it (and what I show of it) I shall carry on regardless in unrepentant fashion!
By the way .... Happy Palm Sunday. We had a donkey at church, but it firmly declined to come in even though we wanted it to. Hey ho, the kids all had rides afterwards, which was FUN.

Love where your vibrant colour stripes and the quote took you. The doodling is delicious, and I think that writing on lines is absolutely OK! I'd love to do a flowing page like yours, but I'd be hopeless. I could give it a go, I suppose. Now where's my ruler ... See? Too challenged! (The word verification is 'bolamors'. That sounds like a good expletive for a no shit Sheila!)

Ooh that page is just lovely! Thanks for posting the photos as you did - it's great to see the progression from a fairly simple background to an incredible, detailed page. :) I love your doodling and the funky, uneven font your;ve jused for your journalling is fantastic.

I'm just getting into art journalling myself (as in, I've got a journal and have painted the first page with gesso (to cover up a failed attempt at decorating the page!) and am about to start work on decorating it!) so I hope you don't mind if I follow your blog for inspiration purposes! :D

Another lovely page Sheila, and take it from another neat freak....YOU ARE ALLOWED TO WRITE WHEREVER YOU WANT!!! In fact, you really inspire me as I love the messy journals too, but my inner control freak seems to end up making everything neat and un-splattery, too! Your pages are exactly how I would love my journal to look, if only I could.
Can I ask a technical question...do you wet the page after you've coloured it, or leave the crayons un-watered? Also, do you use sharpie fine point for the doodling and writing, then the broader tip for your title words? Hope you don't mind me asking, but thanks again for sharing.

Hi Rosie,
