MIXED FEELINGS ...

It's not just me - my other half says he feels the same - we're in a funny sort of limbo and its not a very comfortable place to be. We've survived moving in and after ten days are pretty much unpacked and straight (apart from some unaccountably missing stuff), but it doesn't feel like home yet. The nearest I can get to it is that its like being in a holiday cottage, where you settle in and get your stuff around you, enjoy the novelty, but at the end of the week you go back to your real life! Anyway, the time finally came when I could sit down at my (new) desk and journal about it, and this is what I wrote ...
Himself came in with a cup of coffee (he's good like that), looked over my shoulder and chuckled, saying that he felt exactly the same. Even though the pressure of emptying boxes and long exhausting days is now past, I think tiredness must be a factor because somewhere along the line I mislaid my sense of excitement about this move. Maybe I just lost sight of why we've done it for a while, but if anyone happens across my enthusiasm would they send it back please, because adjusting is kind of hard work without it ....
On a positive note, I met two lovely (crafty) ladies today, the cats have settled down beautifully and even seem to prefer it here, the Spring weather is just lovely, and we've discovered this totally brilliant ice cream parlour! The Studio is taking shape nicely and I'll have pictures to show you very soon ... when I've finally managed to stuff everything in!
Love

Sending happy hugs and prayers for a rapid adjustment Rosie.... I empathise greatly as I feel I'm betwixt homes at the moment and have to make mental adjustments on a weekly basis! Go to that parlour often and enjoy the icecreams :D

Rosie, I know that "holiday home" feeling well, it felt like that when we moved to Almaty and moved into a furnished apartment......what I can tell you is that slowly it starts to feel better and then you realise it is home.....it just takes some time.

And here am I: wanting to move! My whole life was spent moving from house to house, country to country (military father, wanderlust continued into my adult life). Hubby on the other hand does NOT share my enthusiasm. Before we married (9 years ago) he lived in the same house for 30 years, but in the past 9 years we've had two and I'm pining for yet another!

Loving, as ever, your page ... and oh! how hard it must be! Hoping that the temporary feeling is not too uncomfortable and gradually mutates into am "I think this is where I can make a home" feeling. Glad the ctas are happy - and an ice-cream parlour! You're in clover!

comfort, happiness, security, familiarity, all these things take time to build, with a little rest and a little time the house will become home, the hard work part will be over soon and you will be able to relax a bit and start to reap rewards, glad you are back making things and blogging, and wherever you are physically, there is that virtual world where you can always feel at home...an anchor in storms

I can feel for you. After 8 years, and boxes still unpacked, I do not feel settled and long for something and somewhere else. Feel this is my house, but no way is it my home. It is so small, and everyday the walls close in a bit tighter. Have no view out---either look out onto houses or onto a brick wall---Like you, our cats are happy and so is Other Half, so can't have it all.

Hi there so sad after reading your blog I know exactly how you feel. Losing my large house & moving to a bungalow was hard but I don't miss the stairs & the stairs to your old studio were a real trek !! Once your new studio is up & running you will feel much better & time really is a great healer. When your energy returns start another card making group. All those gorgeous designs to share, and you are such a talented teacher !
